Square Enix Files Trademark For ?Circle Of Mana? In Japan

Square Enix has recently filed four video game trademarks in Japan, most of which have pretty self-explanatory descriptions. One of them, however, is a bit more mysterious than the rest.

That would be?Circle of Mana, which sounds like a new entry into the series started by 1993?s?Secret of Mana.

Following the franchise?s path from its original Super Nintendo installment (well, technically, if you don?t count the Game Boy?s?Final Fantasy Adventure), the series has split itself into console and handheld releases.

Dawn of Mana was the last console installment for the Mana saga back in 2006-2007 for the PlayStation 2, which fizzled out to a tepid reception in North America.

Nintendo hasn?t had much more success with the franchise on the DS, though, with?Heroes of Mana and?Children of Mana both under-performing on the handheld system outside of Japan.

Considering the timing of the trademark, it?s possible that there?s an announcement for this game slated toward the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Hopefully, it?s not just a 20-dollar iOS and Android title.
